Water supply from Narmada dam to continue 


Gandhinagar: In a major relief for the farmers in the Narmad and Kadana dam command areas, the state government has decided to supply water for agriculture for another 20 days and 15 days respectively. During a discussion in the assembly on Tuesday, deputy CM Nitin Patel said, “I was to announce supply of water from the Narmada and Kadana dams for irrigation during discussion on Narmada project, but when the issue was raised today, I consulted the CM over the issue.” Patel said that the government has decided that the water supply for the agriculture sector, which was discontinued on March 15, will now continue for more days keeping in view the unseasonal rains and the delay in sowing of crops.  [Readmore]

Ground-breaking for bridge-cum-dam in Harekala on Mar 21

The ground-breaking for the work on bridge-cum-saltwater exclusion dam across River Nethravathi, near Harekala village, on the city’s outskirts, will be held on March 21.

Mangalore MLA U T Khader told mediapersons at Circuit House on Wednesday that Minister For Minor Irrigation from Water Resources J C Madhuswamy will perform the ground-breaking in Harekala on Saturday at 4.30 pm.

District In-charge Minister Kota Srinivasa Poojary, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Members of Legislative Assembly from the district will take part. ‘’The bridge road will connect Mangaluru - Bengaluru and Mangaluru - Kerala Highways. However, the movement of heavy vehicles will be banned on the road. The water impounded in the dam will irrigate fields of hundreds of farmers in Thokkottu, Deralakatte, Mudipu and Boliyar,’’ Khader said. [Readmore]

India's Thermal Power Plants To Have 2.43 Lakh MW Capacity By 2021-22


The Minister of State (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) for Power, New& Renewable Energy R.K. SINGH informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply yesterday that as per the extant National Electricity Plan, the installed capacity ofthermal power plants of the country, comprising of Coal based and Gas &diesel based plants, is likely to be 243,037 MW in 2021-22 out of a totalprojected Installed Capacity of 479,419 MW. The Plant Load Factor (PLF) of Coalbased capacity in 2021-22 is likely to be 56.5%. He added that generators supplying power under Power Purchase Agreement(PPA) will not suffer financial loss due to underutilization of their powergeneration capacity as they are entitled to full recovery of fixed charges fromthe beneficiaries subject to achieving the normative availability. Water resources dept seeks Rs 94 crore to repair leaks in Temghar dam

The Maharashtra Water Resources department has requested Rs 94 crore more from the Irrigation department to take measures to close all leaks in Temghar dam. Under the directions of the Central Water Power Research Station (CWPRS), the irrigation department has already managed to repair 90 per cent of the leaks in the dam.
“The plan is to bring down the leakage from the dam wall to zero. Long term safety measures have to be taken up so a proposal of Rs 94 crore has been sent to the state irrigation department. It will take two years to complete the work,” said Pravin Kolhe, superintending engineer at state water resources department. [Readmore]
